Farewell to Dr. Steven Wright

After successfully putting together The International Benzodiazepine Symposium in 2017, Dr. Wright
cofounded the Alliance in 2018. It is with a mixture of sadness and hope that we bid farewell to Dr.
Steven Wright. September 30th, 2021, was his last day as Medical Director for the Alliance and the
beginning of his retirement from medical practice. We will miss his empathetic approach, expert
analysis, commitment to results, quick humor and friendly interaction. We thank him for all of the
great work he has done for the Alliance and benzodiazepine injury sufferers, and wish him well on the next adventures with family.

Dr. Wright has had a major impact on the perception of benzodiazepines. Here is a sampling:

● Created The International Benzodiazepine Symposium
● Launched the Alliance in 2018, now has over 20 medical professionals
● Launched the Benzodiazepine Workgroup at the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug
Abuse Prevention
● Professional publications on benzos include 4 per-reviewed papers, the most complete
scientific book, and a series of guidance documents produced for the Colorado Consortium
● Gave dozens of interviews on benzodiazepines for Sirius XM Radio and various podcasts
● Developed the scientific basis for 3 more peer reviewed papers and a cooperative program
uniting the Alliance and the US Food and Drug Administration, all of which are currently in
process
● Delivered over 30 professional BZD presentations
● Expert witness for cases involving benzodiazepines

Dr. Wright also wrote a moving piece on recovery, which you can read here.
